I was told to imagine if I had the power, the knowledge and the ability to not only heal myself, but others, then imagine how my life would change, how empowered I would feel and how much money I’d save not only for me, but for others. I was told this at a weekend healing retreat my friend dragged me to because she was interested in becoming a healer, but didn’t want to attend the retreat all by herself. Actually, I think she wanted me with her so I would become a partner with her and we’d start up a wellness center together. But I didn’t believe in any of this stuff, but I did believe in her and her abilities to do what she put her mind to.

What I didn’t expect was to become a believer myself. Even on the very first day, after we got settled in our room at one of the Sydney five star hotels, I felt something strange happening to me. The only way I can describe the feeling is like I could sense every part of my body all the time, not just when I focused on my body, but all the time, I didn’t have to focus, I was just aware. So, I think I was being prepared to absorb the information this seminar was about to teach.

They taught us that understanding energy is easier than one would think and it can lead to absolute healing and happiness in every aspect of our lives. That we didn’t need to understand the underlying principles, just like how we (the general Joe on the street) don’t understand electricity, but we can still use it and gain the benefits of its use. They gave use three basic energy levels. The first was Maximum energy, this will change our lives by getting access to boost energy which will aid in removing stress and pain like migraines in minutes. Then the second energy is the hassle free energy which accesses the infinite universe of what’s called the Life Force. They told us once we learn this technique, which draws on the infinite source, we will be able to apply the technique anywhere, anytime on anyone. It’s kind of a tool kit that we’ll learn to use for all aspects of life, like just zap someone on public transport, or a co-worker, or even or loved ones at home, and no one’s the wiser that they received a healing. The third and last technique is called the Fast technique where we’ll be able to remove pain, increase our energy levels and help not only ourselves, but our loved ones. This last technique, they told us, we’ll be able to master on our first day of the retreat.

Well, if how I’m feeling right now is any indication of putting these technique’s into play, then I’m a believer. I really can not describe just how energized I am and how wonderful I feel, and the retreat hasn’t even started yet.

My waiter at one of the Best Cape Town Restaurants were I was having a delightful dinner, mentioned that I should take my car to a township called KwaMandlenkosi. He told me that I would not be disappointed. The next morning I decided to take his suggestion and make a day excursion to this place. I was really impressed when I travelled along N1 Highway and came across The KwaMadlekosi Township. It was located about 1 kilo-meter south of Beaufort West, Africa. I found out later that KwaMandlendosi was the home of the late pioneering heart surgeon, Professor Christian Barnard. I had no idea, he lived in South Africa.

Apparently, the township had become the focal point of one of the shortest African tourism routes for the Open Africa Project and that it was the first in the Great Karoo. It has been designated as a development area named after Mandlenkosi ‘Tsaka’ Kratchi who was a promising young boxer which came to an untimely and unfortunate death. He became a hero during the struggle against apartheid. So, the members of this township are determined to follow his lead by actively improving their township despite their overwhelming poverty and deprivations.

During my visit, I took a pilgrimage to Kartchi’s home and grave site. I wondered through all the many talented craft shops, huts really, and bought some traditional Xhosa items and some wonderful beadwork. I got to taste some local cooking and drank an African beer with the locals at the shebeens. My last stop was to visit the school and was treated to an impromptu performance of a traditional Xhosa choral singing.

The township is in strong contrast to Beaufort West, which has some fine Victorian buildings. KwaMadlenkosi homes are built in a unique style which incorporates clay, shale stones and hessian. Beaufort west is well known for being the only town in Africa where pear trees grow all along the sidewalks, but KwaMandlenkosi has an initiative to plant many hundreds of trees over the next few years in memory of all its noteworthy citizens and community leaders. My waiter last night wasn’t wrong, I was not disappointed.

As the costs of health care and surgical treatment soars in the United States, more and more people are finding alternative care in other countries. With medical tourism on the rise, many are becoming aware of the outstanding benefits of Mexican hospitals and Mexican doctors.

Knee surgery is one of the most common procedures that people are seeking outside of the United States. As active people suffer from sports injuries and the elderly find their joints compromised, cheap knee surgery is becoming more of a necessity. Because knee replacement surgery cost can be so expensive in the United States, Mexico has become an extremely reasonable alternative, with costs up to 90% less.

Medical tourism is fast becoming one of the most important aspects of travel these days, allowing people to have surgical treatments such as knee surgery without stripping their bank accounts. With highly trained and trusted surgeons, quality health care service is no longer the domain of those with the money to afford it. Because there are now many agencies specializing in medical tourism it has become easier to locate those hospitals and doctors who can work with you according to both your medical and health needs. Addittionally, these agencies will help you find the most cost-effective analysis and treatment available and are there to assist in organizing your flight, hotel, hospital, and surgical team.

If both your parents have Alzheimer’s disease, you probably are more much likely than other people to get it, researchers said on Monday.

Their study focused on 111 families in which both parents were diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, the most common form of dementia among the elderly, and assessed the risk for developing it among the offspring.

The parents had 297 children who lived into adulthood. Of the 98 men and women who were at least 70 years old, 41 of them — about 42 percent — developed Alzheimer’s disease, researchers at the University of Washington in Seattle found.

“That’s greater than you would expect in the general population in that age group,” Dr. Thomas Bird, one of the researchers, said in a telephone interview.

In the general population, risk for the disease begins to rise at about age 65, with the number of people developing the disease doubling every five years beyond that, experts say. Read more
