Natural Law in Johannesburg
For me, the idea of South Africa medicine or traditional healing is covered in a fog of mystery and magical rituals. But, while I was visiting a dear friend of mine while I was staying at one of the luxury hotels Johannesburg has to offer, she corrected me and proceeded to tell me the reality of the healing arts.
The secrets of an enormous variety of natural and medicinal plants and other natural processes that have been through the test of time. She took me to a healer with who she has been going to ever since she was a little girl. She told me that many generations have experienced the value of South African remedies, both for medicinal and for spiritual reasons.
The healer she took me to told me that the techniques may appear strange, and even nonsensical, but the foundations, which the are based on, are sound. They display a certain sensitivity and understanding of natural laws and the biological principals that govern the human body in its affinity to plants and an array of other life forms.
I found that the people of South Africa have an instinctive knowledge, which they are given as children, of natures and are governed by natures laws and it’s expressly for this reason the traditional herbalist is an important person in the community. The herbalist spends a good amount of their life acquiring the knowledge of herb lore so that they may deal with ailments of not only human patients, but livestock as well.
So, my good friend gave me a reality check when it comes to mysticism and thinking everything is magical and easy to come by. I learned that to become a healer and herbalist, one needs to work with the natural law.
